BLOOD PRESSURE Checks

Our Pharmacy is now offering a free NHS hypertension screening service to all adults over 40. High Blood Pressure (also called hypertension) can lead to serious heart and circulatory diseases such as heart attack and stroke.Blood pressure checks are routine assessments performed to measure the force exerted by blood against the walls of arteries as the heart pumps it around the body. These checks are vital for assessing cardiovascular health, identifying potential risks, and managing conditions like hypertension. The measurement involves systolic pressure (when the heart contracts) and diastolic pressure (when the heart relaxes). The results are typically expressed as two numbers, such as 120/80 mmHg, with the first number representing systolic pressure and the second diastolic pressure.

Hypertension rarely has any noticeable symptoms. The only way to find out if your blood pressure is high is to have your blood pressure checked.Maintaining healthy blood pressure levels is crucial, and lifestyle modifications such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management, limiting alcohol consumption, and avoiding tobacco play pivotal roles in blood pressure management.
Regular monitoring empowers individuals to track their blood pressure trends over time, enabling them to take proactive measures in consultation with healthcare providers. It facilitates personalized management plans, including medication if necessary, to keep blood pressure within healthy ranges.

Regular blood pressure checks are a cornerstone in preventive healthcare, aiding in the early detection of high blood pressure, a significant risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and other complications. Early identification allows timely intervention and lifestyle modifications to manage or prevent potential health issues..

Having a blood pressure check provides a measurement of the pressure in your arteries as your heart beats and pumps blood around your body. Our pharmacist will measure your blood pressure in a private consultation room and provide you with tailored advice. If the reading is high, they may offer you an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) device to wear. This can automatically measure your blood pressure at regular intervals over a 24 hour period, allowing for a more detailed view of your blood pressure.
